Dr. Thomas Kahan is professor of medicine at Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm, and serves as a senior consultant in cardiology at Danderyd University Hospital, Stockholm, where he is head of the Cardiovascular Risk Assessment Unit, a European Society of Hypertension Excellence Centre in Hypertension.
He is a board member of the European Society of Hypertension, the International Society of Cardiovascular Pharmacotherapy, and the European Society of Cardiology Council of Hypertension. He is the immediate past president of the Swedish Society of Hypertension, Stroke and Vascular Medicine.
Main research interests relate to neurohormonal mechanisms in the control of blood pressure and cardiac function, with focus on structural myocardial and vascular changes in hypertension and heart failure. He has published approximately 225 publications, including original scientific work, reviews, and book chapters.
